Can’t Help Myself

First off, each week I’m getting more and more annoyed by the new judge Kara for the following reasons:

She says the same stuff for every contestant in a monotone, hand-gestured manner as she tries to make her “big idea” become a reality (which it never really does)

She tries too hard to make herself too relevant and important (trying to prove she belongs as a judge on the greatest show ever—which she hasn’t)

She is always telling the contestants: “You should have sung so-and-so instead” (Note to Kara—that is not useful or constructive at all because the song is already done and they can’t do anything else for that week’s style of song besides listen to her babble)

On with my updated rankings:

1. Adam
(He is just flat out crazy good and really strange—yet super entertaining)

2a. Kris
(He has an awesome voice, is awesome on the guitar and now we learned it’s the same on the piano)

2b. Danny
(Although I wish I would see some tears in his emotion, he kills it week after week)

4. Allison
(Just so different and fresh)

5. Matt
(I actually like him much more than America or the judges seem to)

6. Lil
(Although she has some pipes, she’s too predictable)

7. Scott
(His skill and attitude towards criticism amaze me, but I feel the others are just better)

8. Megan
(She’s very cute, but she tends to biff her songs every week)

9. Anoop
(It doesn’t seem he’s ready for this stage)

What is your ranking thus far???

Much love.

I've gotta admit it. Outside of the odd clip, I've never watched a single episode of "American Idol". I did enjoy Adam Lambert's version of "Ring of Fire" a couple weeks back, though.

I TOTALLY agree about Kara!

Well, Andy, few things serve as a metaphor for a bridge between the gays and rest of society like American Idol.....

P - I can't tell if you're being serious or not....but either way I totally agree!!!! Go AI!

I totally agree with you that your top four are THE top four. My own preferences vary only slightly.

I like Anoop, but I don't think he stands a real chance against the aforementioned top four.

Megan, Megan, Megan. The vocals just don't do it for me. I don't think of her as being on par with the rest of these performers.

Lil would do much better if she had some dynamic range in her songs instead of just loud and louder.

Peace.

Don't you just love how American Idol has become a launching pad for non-musicians to critique vocalists as if we knew what we were saying?

:-)

Andy, it was said in jest, but it probably true to some extent...

Hi Andrew!! I just found your blog and have enjoyed reading it so much. I'm taking an ethnic and cultural awareness master's class right now and will be doing my final paper on the homosexual community so I'll be using your blog and other resources for my paper. And most importantly, love your commentary on AI!! :) I have loved it this season and think Adam is such an amazingly freaky guy! He's WAY too good for this competition, but I enjoy listening to him every week. I also love Kris and Alison....I think I'll actually buy tickets when the top 10 comes to town this summer! :) Take care.
